Giles is a Chartered Building Surveyor and member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a global organisation with a growing presence in New Zealand and Australia. He is also a Registered Member of the New Zealand Institute of Building Surveyors.
Since immigrating to New Zealand from the UK in 2009, Giles has predominantly been involved with weathertightness investigations of leaky buildings. He has provided expert witness services and advice regarding remediation to both claimants and defendants, throughout the Wellington and Auckland areas, as well as throughout the rest of New Zealand.
His experience in New Zealand has also incorporated preparing Pre-acquisition Building Surveys and preparing and negotiating repair claims for landlords and tenants on commercial holdings. Both of the above have included advice as to potential refurbishment schemes.
Giles gained experience in a wide range of Building Surveying disciplines relating to the commercial property sector, during his time in the UK and Europe. These included: preparing and negotiating Terminal Schedules of Dilapidations for both landlords and tenants, undertaking contract administration roles on refurbishment and repair schemes and preparing Long-Term Planned Maintenance Schedules. His experience also incorporated work in relation to heritage buildings.
Whilst working in London, Giles was seconded to Warsaw, Poland by a multi-disciplinary commercial property practice, to aid in establishing their Building Surveying and Project Management department. During this period, Giles was predominantly involved with preparing Pre-acquisition Due Diligence Building Surveys and undertaking development monitoring roles, advising investors on commercial development and fit out projects.
