As a Building Surveyor providing technical advice to clients Stephen boasts a comprehensive understanding of the New Zealand construction industry, with over twenty years experience in a wide range of roles, from site carpentry through to Building Consent Authority and private consultancy.
During his career Stephen spent around 7 years working in Building Compliance, employed as a Building Consents Officer in both building consent processing and building inspection roles. These positions imparted invaluable skills and experience, enabling Stephen to develop a detailed understanding of the New Zealand Building Act, Building Code and the statutory obligations of Building Consent Authorities.
In the latter stage of his time in Building Compliance Stephen worked within a specialist weathertight claims team, carrying out forensic reviews and reporting on claims and providing technical support to the litigation process.
Stephen’s previous experience includes a specific focus on leaky buildings being repaired as part of Governments Financial Assistance Package (FAP) scheme, entailing repair plan reviews and undertaking onsite timber remediation assessments on behalf of the Crown. Stephen’s knowledge of the FAP process makes him well suited to assisting our clients in negotiating the repair of their buildings under the scheme.
Stephen’s skills are underpinned by his early-developed skills and experience as carpenter, having completed a National Certificate in carpentry and Advanced Trade Certificate, working in the residential and light commercial areas.
