Creating a new teaching space at a local Henderson school

Sunnyvale School, Henderson, Auckland

Sunnyvale School is a primary school in the West Auckland suburb of Henderson. Children come from diverse cultural backgrounds with Māori and children with Pacific heritage comprising a total of 46 percent of the roll.

The project:

We were engaged by the Board of Trustees to project manage the conversion of an original student cloak and bag bay area into a new teaching space to provide further support space for their English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students. This was a project the school had been planning to deliver for several years. We worked with them to achieve an affordable design.

As part of the project, the existing separate boys and girls student toilets were converted into unisex toilet cubicles to make more efficient use of space and to improve accessibility both from the internal spaces and the adjacent playground area. This change provided an opportunity for better ventilation of the toilets and easier access for ongoing maintenance.

We love the school’s choice of colour scheme which adds fun to the space. The project was delivered within programme and under budget requirements.
