Maynard Marks recently welcomed two Year 13 students from Lynfield College for a work experience day with our team.

Miya and Eliza, both interested in pursuing a career in Architecture, joined us to explore the diverse career pathways the property and building industry has to offer. This initiative is part of our commitment to promoting our industry to future generations.

The day began with an office tour, giving the students a behind-the-scenes look at how our teams collaborate across disciplines. PPE in place, the students then headed off for their next session, a site visit at an Auckland reinstatement project. Malcolm Arnold from our Building Surveying team showed them around and they were able to get an-person view of the practical work that goes into compliance and ensuring healthy buildings.

In the afternoon, they participated in two hands-on sessions; an Architectural Design work session with Jeffrey Hall where they explored design tools and workflows used in practice, followed by an overview of Project Management, with Georgia McArthur, who introduced them to the planning and coordination involved in delivering successful projects.

We caught up with Miya and Eliza at the end of the day to hear what they enjoyed most. Both highlighted the site walk as a standout experience, offering a tangible understanding of how different building systems come together. They also appreciated the opportunity to work with architectural software and see how schoolwork and study actually connect to real-world applications.

This initiative, which followed a successful experience day with Lynfield College last year, reflects our ongoing commitment to nurturing talent, and supporting a sustainable industry.
