Steve has over 30 years’ industry experience in both consultancy and contracting environments in New Zealand and the UK. He has a proven track record delivering a range of commercial, large-scale residential, infrastructure, rail, educational, airports and marine projects.

As an experienced Chartered and Registered Quantity Surveyor, Steve’s key goal is to build lasting relationships with clients, working with them to become a trusted project partner in providing a quality cost management service that can be relied upon. The ultimate goal is for Maynard Marks to become the go to company for quantity surveying services.

Steve can assist at all stages of a project lifecycle from estimating and cost planning, facilitating both ‘Risk’ and ‘Safety in Design’ workshops, preparing tender documents and post contract servicing including cost control, cost reporting, client liaison and negotiating variations. By providing clear and concise regular financial reports clients can easily track their project’s financial performance at any stage in the development.

Steve has been involved in cost management for a number of clients including New Zealand Transport Agency, Auckland City Council, Auckland International Airport Limited, Wellington International Airport Limited, The Ports of Auckland Limited, The Asian Development Bank, Watercare, Transpower and the Ministry of Education as well as private developers.

His approach to working with clients is highly collaborative and he provides factual and robust advice. Steve works closely with each project team to identify risks and their potential financial impacts. Using his industry experience, he acts as an early warning system – avoiding unpleasant surprises – and helping clients’ projects to complete within budget and on time.

  • Registered Quantity Surveyor with the New Zealand Institute of Quantity Surveyors
  • BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management
  • ALCAM (Australian Level Crossing Assessment Model) Level Crossing rail assessor
  • Certified to Expert level in Microsoft Excel
