Juan has approximately 20 years’ experience as a project manager covering all facets of the industry in New Zealand and Spain. He began his career as a site-based project manager on multi-unit and single dwelling residential projects, progressing to commercial projects for an international company before setting up his own consultancy, acting as the client-side construction director, managing project budgets and providing expert witness services in litigation proceedings.

Juan’s experience includes design and quantity surveying in addition to project management, which provides him an in-depth understanding of these roles and assists him to comprehend the interfaces between them and bring all the parts together for a successful project.

After moving to New Zealand, Juan initially worked as a quantity surveyor for a large construction company, then worked on commercial projects, where he also acted in a project management role.

At Maynard Marks, Juan works on all types of buildings including multi-unit residential, commercial and education projects. He has strong skills in planning, scheduling and monitoring projects and in expediting resources to achieve project milestones within defined cost, time, quality, health and safety parameters.

Juan prides himself on the way he listens to, and communicates with clients, project partners and other stakeholders. After realising client needs and expectations, he takes pressure off them by making them aware of key decisions they need to make by when, in order to keep the project moving. He pre-empts issues likely to occur and develops mitigation strategies and communicates these to the client so they know exactly what’s been considered and why.
