Proactive project delivery for this major storage facility

Initially engaged to complete a damage assessment for insurance purposes, we subsequently led complex reinstatement works, whilst maintaining operational continuity for this major storage facility.

The project:

In May 2024, a severe weather event caused significant damage to a 3,500m² Kapiti self-storage facility. Initially, we were engaged to assess damage and draft a remediation scope. Our role later expanded when the structure was found to be non-compliant with current wind loading requirements, triggering a full redesign for upgrade works. As a result of the new design, the building increased in height, leading to additional consequential works and one of New Zealand’s largest Keder roofing scaffold structures. We managed concrete floor slab crack repairs, consultants, and supported insurance negotiations, keeping most units operational throughout the project.

Our value add:

We delivered value through clear, consistent communication with the client, accelerating works where possible, including over the Christmas break to minimise disruption to business operations.

A proactive approach kept storage units operational using innovative solutions and temporary containers. For example, when five containers of new units arrived from New South Wales, we sourced a no-margin, short-term rental solution within the existing facility.
